Square Picket Installation 1. Design and install deck frame into desired position per local building codes. The size of the picket will be determined by the type of installation. In a top to bottom rail installation, the top of the top rail should be 36" from the top of the deck. For a top rail to deck installation, there should be 42" from the top of the top rail to the bottom of the deck. 2. Cut your top and bottom 2x4's rails to length. Cut an addition 4" block to use as your guide for measuring the 4" on-center gap between pickets. Mark a point at the center of the bottom rail. Place one end of the 4" block on the center point and mark your 4" install points toward one end of the rail. Continue this through both ends of the rail, as well as completing the 2nd rail using the same process. 3. Install pickets 4" on-center per your install points. Local building codes may require different widths between pickets. Using the countersunk screw hole, secure the picket to the top rail using 2 of the 4 screws provided. If the screws are too long, use wire cutters to clip the ends. Be sure to wear safety glasses. If installing into the deck, use the entire length of the 2" screw provided for added strength and stability. Illustrated installation instructions available now for download:
